Conservatives drop to third place in Local Elections

Anthony Hannay and Steve Burt, both members of Reddish Conservative Club, stood as candidates in last Thursday's local election. Both candidates were narrowly beaten (Anthony Hannay by only 15 votes) in the race to be second behind Labour in the two Reddish wards. With a turnout of over double the 2008 and 2009 local elections, it is clear that the Liberal Democrats saw the biggest bounce in their votes. The BNP continue to be marginalised in both Reddish North and Reddish South, with less than 10% of the vote in Reddish North and half that in Reddish South.

Reddish North

  1. Peter Scott (Labour) 3,209 votes.
  2. Danny Langley (Liberal Democrats) 1,115 votes.
  3. Anthony Hannay (Conservative) 1,100 votes.
  4. Paul Bennett (British National Party) 536 votes.

Reddish South

  1. Thomas Grundy (Labour) 3,192 votes.
  2. Norman Beverley (Liberal Democrats) 1,433 votes.
  3. Steve Burt (Conservative) 1,320 votes.
  4. George Thorne (British National Party) 326 votes.
